Comprehensive Roof Replacement: Solving Leaks and Standing Water Issues

At Neo Roofing Solutions, we understand the importance of a well-installed roof for the integrity of your home. Recently, we undertook a significant project to address a leaking roof that was causing water to pool on the deck below. With multiple issues stemming from the initial installation, we decided to strip everything down to the plywood and start fresh. Here’s a detailed overview of the steps we took to ensure a durable and effective solution.

Step 1: Assessing the Situation

The first step was to assess the extent of the damage caused by the leaking roof. Our team identified that the old membrane was compromised, leading to standing water issues that threatened the deck and the structural integrity of the home. With a clear understanding of the problems, we prepared for a complete roof replacement.

Step 2: Removing the Old Membrane

We carefully removed the old roofing materials down to the bare plywood. This meticulous process allowed us to inspect the underlying structure for any hidden damage. By ensuring a clean slate, we set the stage for a robust new roofing system.

Step 3: Waterproofing the Windows

Given the low placement of the windows, we knew that extra attention was required to ensure they were waterproofed effectively. For this, we used a high-quality product from Soprema called Alsan RS. This liquid-applied membrane provides excellent adhesion and creates a seamless waterproof barrier around the windows, preventing any future leaks.

Step 4: Installing Tapered Insulation

Before installing the new flat roof, we addressed the standing water issue by incorporating tapered insulation. This step is crucial for directing water flow toward the gutters, ensuring proper drainage and eliminating the risk of water pooling. By sloping the insulation correctly, we provided a foundation that allows water to flow away from the roof effectively.

Step 5: Installing New Metal Roof Panels

For the roofing material, we opted for new metal roof panels that were designed to overlap the newly installed flat roof. Using the old panels was not a viable option due to their age and the issues we identified. The new metal panels not only provide durability but also enhance the overall aesthetic of the home.

Step 6: Final Inspection and Quality Check

After completing the installation, we conducted a thorough inspection to ensure that all components were correctly installed and functioning as intended. Our commitment to quality means that we leave no detail overlooked, ensuring the longevity and performance of the new roof.

Conclusion

By replacing the old roof with a new, well-constructed system, we successfully resolved the leaking and standing water issues that had plagued this home.
